Is it possible to play with a digital piano in the same way like an acoustic piano?
The Sound
In contrast to a traditional piano, where the sound is the result of the interaction of vibrating strings and the resonating cabinet, a digital piano generates its sound electronically. In a complex process, the sound of a high-quality piano or concert grand is recorded (sample) and reproduced authentically by the electronic system of the digital piano. This allows you to enjoy the full sound richness of a first-class acoustic piano with a digital piano.
The Playing Feel
The piano keyboard is crucial for an authentic playing feel. The most important features are touch response and keyboard weighting. These two factors are decisive for dynamics in piano playing. In an acoustic piano, the key strike triggers a hammer mechanism that sets the strings into sound vibrations. The way the piano key is struck, hard or soft, determines the volume and sound of the struck string. In the keyboard of a high-quality digital piano, this hammer mechanism is realistically replicated through the interaction of weighting and touch dynamics. The result is a realistic playing feel, just like on a traditional acoustic piano.
